Looking for a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon without spending a dime?
Artpark’s Free Family Saturdays offer a variety of hands-on art activities and special live performances that your whole family will love! Free Family Saturdays take place July 10–31 from noon-4pm in Artpark’s Upper Park. There is no parking fee and families are encouraged to picnic in the park at unique artist-created picnic tables (no on-site concessions will be available for purchase, restroom facilities will be open).

BPO Summer in the Parks
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is excited to announce the BPO Summer in the Parks series presented by First Niagara led by BPO Associate Conductor, Matthew Kraemer. All concerts begin at 7pm and are FREE and open to the entire Western New York community. “The BPO has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the community that supports us by providing free Summer in the Parks concerts,” said BPO Executive Director Dan Hart. “We are grateful for the support of First Niagara which allows us to reach out to as much the community as possible.”
The BPO Summer in the Parks kicks off with a return to Delaware Park in Buffalo on Wednesday, July 7th, set in Buffalo’s Olmsted Delaware Park meadow. On Friday, July 9th the BPO will perform at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, followed by a return to Niagara Falls State Park (Goat Island), Niagara Falls on Thursday, July 15th to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the oldest state park in the nation. This concert will precede a fireworks display.

Empire State Games
The Empire State Games Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday July 21 will kick-off four days of gold medal athletic competitions.
The 2010 Buffalo Games will run through Sunday July 25 with more than 6,000 athletes from across the state descending on Western New York to compete in the country’s oldest amateur, multi-sport competition.
Staged similar to an Olympic celebration, the Empire State Games opening ceremonies will include a day and night full of family fun and entertainment featuring the traditional athlete procession, swearing in and cauldron lighting. Local Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops will lead the athletes along with a military flyover and color guard. An original music score will be performed and a robust fireworks display will cap off the evening concert. Opening ceremonies tickets are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations.
Prior to opening ceremonies, families young and old can enjoy the sights and sounds of the Empire Family Village. Athletic competitions, live entertainment and foods from local Buffalo restaurants will be featured along with plenty of sponsor bonuses. Ryan Miller’s Steadfast Foundation will bring MYESPN and the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres will feature sport challenges for all ages. Located adjacent to UB North Campus Stadium, the Empire Family Village will be open from 3:30 - 6:30 PM on July 21 and is free to the public.
Dozens of local athletic venues will come to life with competitions ranging from hockey, lacrosse, wrestling, basketball, track & field, swimming and more. 2010 Buffalo Book Fair
The Buffalo Book Fair Committee will host the 5th Annual Buffalo Book Fair on Sat., July 10th from 11am to 6pm in downtown Buffalo (Lafayette Square and Washington Street). FREE and open to all, the Buffalo Book Fair celebrates the power of reading through author presentations, book signings, seminars and panel discussions that take place outside in literary pavilions and in the Buffalo and Erie County Library. This festive literary event has now become one of Buffalo’s many treasures offering activities for the entire family. Special features include healthy cooking demonstrations, poetry readings, storytellers, live music, art, hands on projects for children, and retail and book exhibitors. The book fair has attracted over 4,000 people and serves as a perfect complement to the annual Taste of Buffalo food festival that takes place the same weekend two blocks away.
Signature Children Features include the WNED (PBS-TV) Main Stage, a popular area that includes special presentations for kids and families. Hear the winners of WNED’s Share a Story Contest, see exciting demonstrations, enjoy story time with some of your favorite characters and personalities and join in the hands on fun as we celebrate the power of reading and writing. In addition, the Interactive Children Section hosted by Read to Succeed and the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library is an extremely popular area that provides free arts and crafts activities with a link to literature.
