HOW TO SUBMIT AN EVENT TO OUR CALENDAR

SUBMIT YOUR INFORMATION EARLY TO HAVE YOUR BEST CHANCE OF BEING INCLUDED!

 

PRINT EDITION CALENDAR:

Submission Deadline: 15th of the month at NOON for the NEXT month's issue

Our print edition calendar is meant to feature events of interest to parents, children and families as a whole. Since space is limited, FREE events and those held by non-profit organizations, area cultural institutions (such as museums, zoo, theatres, art gallery, etc), and support groups receive preference. If you are a for-profit business, your chance of being included in our calendar is reduced, unless your event is unique or determined by the editor to be of great interest to a wide portion of our readership.

 

Since we receive many more items than we can use in our print edition, submission of an item does not guarantee it will be used. Our calendar editor works very hard to put together a mix of events which will appeal to a broad audience, over a wide geographic area. The only way to GUARANTEE that your event will be featured in our magazine or on our web site is to PURCHASE A PAID PRINT or ONLINE ADVERTISEMENT.

CALENDAR "ONLINE EXCLUSIVES":

If your submission is received after the print deadline, it will be considered for the "Calendar Online Exclusives" section of our web site or for our new "Families On-The-Go" newsletter which goes out via e-mail in between print issues of WNY Family to update readers who have signed up for it. Your event information may also be posted on our FACEBOOK page. Note that our FACEBOOK page is used to provide up-to-the minute updates throughout the month; our web site calendars are NOT updated on a daily basis.

Tips for Preparing Your Calendar Item:

Your item will have the best chance of being used if you keep these guidelines in mind:

 

Be sure to describe the child-oriented and family-related aspects of your event. If you submission does not include specifics about why your event will be fun, educational or of interest to children, parents and/or families as a whole, it will have less of a chance of being chosen for use.

Too much information is better than too little!

Include the DATE, TIME, and a contact PHONE NUMBER (required) and/or E-MAIL address where our readers or our editor can contact you for further details, if necessary.

You should also include your WEB SITE if you have one, since the online calendar and our new digital issues feature "hot links" direct to any web site that appears.

Include any COSTS or FEES involved, if any, and be sure to state whether advance PRE-REGISTRATION is required.

Cultural organizations, non-profits, FREE or unique events, and support groups receive preference in our calendars. If you are a for-profit business it is less likely your item will be used unless it includes a free element our readers can benefit from, raises funds for a charity or is unique in its appeal to our readers. We do not publish school open houses in our calendars.
