EDIBLE FINGER PAINTS

Fingerpainting is a kids’ favorite, but parents worry about it winding up in their mouths. Here’s a recipe that is mom-tested and kid-approved.

You will need:

2 cups of cornstarch

1 cup of cold water

4 1⁄2 cups of boiling water

Liquid food coloring.

Mix the cornstarch with the cold water and stir together. Pour in the boiling water and stir between each cup. It gets really strange (you are basically mixing a hot “oobleck” goop) but keep stirring, and it literally seems to "melt" into a wonderful, custard-like consistency. Separate it into individual jam jars before adding coloring. You’ll find a complete tutorial with photos at The Imagination Tree (www.theimaginationtree.com/2011/03/homemade-edible-finger-paint-recipe.html).
